The Reservable Gulf-View Table on West 30A Has Moved to Seaside

October 15, 2026

On September 14, 2026, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club announced that Vue on 30a had closed permanently. That ended a run on the Dune Allen Gulf front that started in 1971, when the building opened as the "Beach Club." Get The Coast reported that the restaurant had been named "Best Fine Dining" by Visit South Walton and a "Most Booked" restaurant on OpenTable. That second honor is the one that matters here. Vue was a Gulf-view dinner you could put on the calendar. Of the Gulf-view rooms still running between Gulf Place and Seaside, only one clearly works that way, and it sits several beach communities to the east.

What Closed, and What the Club Has Not Said Yet

The club explained that routine maintenance led to an outside assessment, which found water intrusion and related indoor air-quality problems in parts of the building. The repairs were possible but would have been expensive and slow. Since the club's long-range master plan already called for replacing the building, the board closed Vue rather than repair it. 30A.com and WJHG reported the same explanation that day.

The closure notice does not describe what will replace the building. It gives no design, architect, cost, schedule or opening date, and it mentions no interim dining. The club's own board notes from 2022 through 2024 show earlier ideas that were explored and never decided. In June 2024, a structural engineer found that Vue's foundation could not support a second story. In October 2024, the board looked at conceptual drawings showing a one-story Beach Club and made no decision. Those notes predate the closure and may no longer reflect the plan. So the date a Gulf-front dining room reopens at the club is still an open question.

Public access is another open question. A 2022 club release called beachfront dining at Vue "semi-private," while golf and beach-club access moved to a fully private membership model. Whatever gets built, nothing published so far says whether non-members will be able to dine there.

How the Remaining Gulf-View Tables Get Handed Out

Several rooms between Gulf Place and Seaside still have the view Vue had. The difference is how you get a seat. Each room hands out tables its own way, based on its posted policies.

Restaurant Location Gulf view How you get a table Larger groups
Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar 1875 S. Hwy. 393, Gulf Place Panoramic bar facing the Gulf First come, first served. No reservations or call-ahead Outdoor tent overlooking the Gulf, up to 12 per table
Fish Out of Water 34 Goldenrod Circle, WaterColor Redesign built around Gulf views Main dining room is first come, first served Wine Room can be reserved for up to 20, $1,500 food-and-beverage minimum
CHIRINGO 63 Hotz Ave., Grayton Beach Upstairs Gulf-view dining area Reservation policy not stated on its hours page Upstairs room seats 50. Full venue 200+ seated
Bud & Alley's 2236 East County Road 30-A, Seaside Gulf-front setting plus Roof Deck Reservations through its website Gulf-view deck about 150, porch about 40
WaterColor Grill 24 Goldenrod Circle, WaterColor Gulf views For WaterColor homeowners and guests Not applicable to the general public

Read the table from west to east and a pattern shows up. The two rooms closest to Dune Allen, Shunk Gulley at Gulf Place and Fish Out of Water at WaterColor, both seat their main dining areas on arrival. Shunk Gulley's FAQ rules out reservations and call-ahead seating, and adds that during peak season it does not host private events outside regular dining. Fish Out of Water states that it seats first come, first served "to seat guests as efficiently as possible." The exception is its private Wine Room. Bud & Alley's is the only room on this list whose own site offers reservations for regular dinner seating, through a "Book Now" link on its homepage.

What That Means for the Dinners Vue Used to Host

30A.com described Vue as a place for sweeping Gulf views and special-occasion dinners. Those occasions still happen. Each one now lands somewhere different, depending on group size and how much certainty you need.

A table for two or four on a weeknight. Shunk Gulley is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. 30A.com's listing describes 40 feet of panoramic Gulf views from the bar. Fish Out of Water's posted fall hours, which run through October 31, 2026, are Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Its holiday-season schedule, November 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027, keeps those same hours. Its pages don't say outright whether people who aren't staying at the resort can dine there, so call before you count on a seat.

A date that can't slip. If a specific evening has to work, Bud & Alley's is the reservable option. Its Roof Deck overlooks the Gulf, serves cocktails and light bites, and rings a bell every day at sunset. It lists seasonal Roof Deck hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and asks guests to call for current hours.

Grayton in between. CHIRINGO has an upstairs Gulf-view dining area about 200 feet from the sand, and its site lists a free shuttle from the Grayton Central lot. Posted hours are Sunday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The last seating is at 8:45 p.m. The hours page doesn't say whether you can book a table, so call ahead.

A group of 12, 20, 50 or 150. Group size decides more than anything else. Shunk Gulley's tent tops out at 12 per table. Fish Out of Water's Wine Room holds 20 with a $1,500 minimum, booked by email. CHIRINGO's upstairs room seats 50. Bud & Alley's lists a Gulf-view deck for about 150 and a Gulf-view porch for about 40. WaterColor Grill also has Gulf views, but the resort describes it as serving WaterColor homeowners and guests.

Planning Around a Walk-In Sunset

West of Seaside, a Gulf-view dinner now depends on timing more than on a booking. Based on the posted hours, here's how the planning works:

  1. Choose the night first. Fish Out of Water opens at 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, so weekday seating starts in the afternoon.
  2. Match the room to your group. Twelve is the per-table limit in Shunk Gulley's tent. Twenty is the cap in Fish Out of Water's Wine Room.
  3. Note the cutoffs. CHIRINGO's last seating is 8:45 p.m., and Fish Out of Water closes at 9 p.m. every day of the week this fall.
  4. If the date can't move, book Bud & Alley's through its website and treat everything else as a backup.

This Week, Every Posted Schedule Is Provisional

Hurricane Isaias arrived after the hours above were posted. Ahead of the storm, WJHG reported that Seaside businesses would close Friday, October 9. In an October 10 update from WJHG, South Walton Fire District crews were assessing 26 miles of beach. Lifeguard towers were staying off the sand, double red flags meant the water was closed, and officials warned that damaged flag poles and boardwalks could leave warning flags missing. Crews also asked the public to watch for nails and debris in the sand and parking areas. Florida State Parks closed Grayton Beach, Eden Gardens and Deer Lake state parks effective October 10.

None of the reporting we reviewed names a 30A restaurant as damaged or gives reopening dates. Until it does, the hours in this post are each restaurant's published schedule, and a phone call to the restaurant is the only way to confirm a table on a given night.

Vue's closure also changes the comparison for anyone weighing a home near the Dune Allen Gulf front, since the closest reservable sunset table is now farther east.
